How to perform a Breast Exam

Please do a self Breast Exam and/or schedule your annual Mammogram, if you haven't had one already. Early detection is key. And can quite literally save your life.

Personally, I am recovering from a double mastectomy w/Diep Flap procedures. I had never even heard of this surgery before I was told I was not a candidate for a traditional Mastectomy and reconstruction, and I've have Breast Cancer in my family, and friends who have it, and have had it myself previously and still I was uninformed. So, I'm sharing my story, in hopes that it may help someone else. This time around, I found a lump only 3 months after a clear mammogram. Had I waited for my next exam, my outcome could have been very different. Because of my diagnosis, my wife went and had a mammogram. She also has breast cancer, and will be having surgery herself, as soon as I have recovered and can take care of her. Quite literally, me finding my lump early, has given both my wife and I the ability to have surgery and mitigate our future risks. Not everyone is so lucky. So please, don't put it off....check yourself, get a mammogram if you're due, and just know...whether it's your first exam or you've had many.....whatever you're feeling...you are not alone.
