My April 2020 Camp NaNo goal:

a) read chapters of the possibly conflicting books, "Mastering Suspense Structure & Plot" by Jane Cleland, and "Story Trumps Structure" by Steven James

b) journal at least 10 days of the month

c) write something new on any existing project (this includes editing any NaNo project, character sketching; and/or working on a synopsis).

My project is listed as "Unnamed Regina Mills Romance", as I'm not sure what pairing or theme week I have to work with in April yet. LOL

My NaNo name: ctice

My camp project: trying to get back in the habit. My goal is to do morning pages on 750words.com everyday. So far, it hasn't been everyday. I could blame it on my computer being in the shop, but I'm just forgetting.

It's May 4 as I report in on my Camp NaNo status. I didn't read either of the books I'd planned to. I was busy actually writing!

I originally had a goal of 10K words for the April 2020 Camp season. I didn't get anywhere near that, but I did do more than the 554 words I remembered to record on the site.

I called the camp project "Pandemic Writing." During the month, I wrote and posted five blog items -- outstanding output giving that I hadn't put up a post since December 2019! All of them were about the pandemic and it was a good way to let off some steam about the frustrations of the last two months. It was a form of journaling that continues.

I also had four -- count 'em, 1-2-3-4! -- writer group meetings, via Zoom, of course. I'm in a local group of women writers who sort of call ourselves the Ladies' Literati. We usually meet at a delightful Argentine restaurant or a wine bar. We took to Zoom to gather and to do some reading of excerpts of recent work. Prepping for that short reading made me pull out and work on a project that had been languishing for a while.

Sisters in Crime Houston had its second virtual meeting last month. The speaker was a writer/member who shared her writer's journey (which included five husbands, several of which were involved in felonies).

And a group of current and former romance writer pals got together via Zoom on April 19. That meeting was a general catch-up on what everyone has been working on. We're meeting every two weeks. Yesterday's meeting was to provide a set-up of and then a reading of the WIP. It actually hurt my heart to have to close the computer after that call, because I read from one story that is in progress, but opened the file to continue and finish work on Mercy 2.0. :)

Oh, and April 15 was the hour-long free MasterClass chat with author Dan Brown. That was good. Of course, I took notes. Let me know if you want me to type them up here.

So, overall, it was a quite the writerly month. :)

I managed to get my word count [and more] mostly with one theme week, but with a few other short stories, which is what my project ended up turning into.
