Do NOT send regular chocolate for this swap. It must be Valentine candy/chocolate.

The fat quarter can have hearts, cupids, etc, just make sure that it is Valentine's Day fabric. Do NOT send regular pink or red fabric for this swap - this is just for Valentine-themed fabric. Unless you are sending that as an extra, of course.

Okay, I LOVE fabrics ... used to work in a fabric store. Somehow my memory is fading ...

WHAT IS A "FAT QUARTER"???

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

I had the same question, and I can't seem to find the thread where I asked and got the answer. Hopefully somebody will come in with a more correct answer, but I'll try to explain.

Take a full yard of fabric, cut it in half, and then cut those two pieces in half again. So out of one yard you get 4 pieces that I believe are approximately 18"x22". Am I right divas?

Yup, that's right @choke . You don't have to buy a full yard of fabric, though. You can just buy a half yard of fabric and cut it down the center fold, which would create two approx. 18" x 22" pieces (or about 45 cm by 55 cm)

Thank you for the clarification of a Fat Quarter! I thought that was it, but wanted to make sure ...

I got some cute fabric from my last dottee swap and I'm starting a stash again!

this may sound silly as well but what is the fabric width you buy? 36", 45" ?? thanks

Bluelily 01/13/2009 #

I think i just answered my own question.....if i did the math correctly, it is the 45"........thanks

Here in the US, a yard of fabric is approximately 45" from selvage to selvage, and is cut 36" wide. Therefore, a "fat quarter" (as opposed to a long quarter which is approximately 9" x 45") should be about 18" x 22." I hope that answers your question! :-)
