Round Robin USA Journal Swap #1

Hi, love the sound of this and have always wanted to do around robin journal..however I am in the UK! Any chance of making it international, although I guess this will slow down its journey a little as mailing things to the US can take up to a week to get there, occasionally longer? What do you think? Thanks Alex

I would love to participate, but I live in Sweden :(

I like the idea of journal traveling in RANDOM order, because that way we get to see journals in different stages of completion.

I think the same order would be easier. As the swap goes on, we will eventually see everybody's work.

I think it would be best to send to the same person each time - you run the risk of getting a book twice and missing someone entirely. just my two cents!

great point, Jeanne3k, and thinking about it some more, I have to agree completely - I'm editing the swap to say that.

thanks for the input, and for THIS one, being my first kind of thing like this, I'm leaving it alone, but am STARTING ~~~#2~~~ for International - please check it out. We will just see where it goes, and as long as you SEND it off quickly, (within a week), waiting for it should not be TOO bad.

as you put your name and address on your own journals, PLEASE also include your "swap-bot" name/id - so many of us us nicknames, that sometimes it may be hard to know WHO sent it.

ALSO - since the journey will be the same for each, once you have SENT a journal onward, PLEASE post here that you received so-and-so's journal, and have SENT it on to the next!

Since we are not newbies here, and some of us may have had experiences with no-senders, hopefully we all understand and can appreciate that accountability is a good thing.

Hi, just a "head's up" - and I'm thrilled that so many have written to me about these -

as the number approaches 10, I will open another swap - either Int'l or USA - (or both) - and will contact anyone after ten who signs up - to move them to the other swap - -

since it is SO much nicer to just drop yourself from a swap, rather than me removing/BANNING someone, I am HOPING that anyone I contact will happily just move themselves.

(If they don't, yes, I will have to remove them - keeping our number at TEN is very important)

tIREEN - I sure didn't mean to ignore your comment about "random order" - but in thinking about it, decided that it would leave a bit too many variables, and I really want this to be a success, with ALL of us getting our journals back.

We WILL, in fact, see journals at different 'levels' of completion, as LMM said.

What I mean is, if we think of assigning each person a number, then yes, you WILL receive the journal just before you, (with only one embellishment), but you will also receive the one right AFTER you, as it circles all around to get to you, and all of those in between.

(I sure hope that makes sense, hahaha)

having been asked if we START with our OWN journals, I post the following -

hopefully to clarify -

each person will receive ONE partner thru swap-bot. That person is the person you will ALWAYS be sending to.

YES - The journal STARTS its travels in the hands of its OWNER - the person who will end up with it at the very end, so pick out something YOU like, and start decorating it yourself. (Be sure to put your name and address (and swap-bot name) somewhere easily visible on the front or back cover!)

Every person will also receive (from me) the swap partner that they receive from, and also (from swap-bot) the person who they send to - (and yes, those two names will be the same for every journal) -

this is why we are limiting this to 10 swappers, or it could get very outrageous!

Since we are not open to newbies, I sure do HOPE that means that we all understand what it's like to be on the receiving end of a no-sender, so this will help to track down any journals.

AFTER you send a journal, please post here that you received so-and-so's journal and sent it to _________.

That way we know where each one is in the process, and yes, can track them down if necessary.

Hope that helps, and any other questions, just ask - (this really isn't so complicated, tho it probably seems so - and will come clear once we "start" the process)

it may be possible that at some point in this process, you will end up with more than one journal in your possession at a given time.

If that is the case, you CERTAINLY can send them all off together, since they will all be going to the SAME partner. (Plus this would save on mailing!)

Please, however, do not hold any journals more than a few days, "waiting" for others to arrive.

(Just make sure that you remember to add something to every journal before sending it on its way! lol)

just something to think about -

"Delivery Confirmation" in the US costs only 60 cents extra - these little gems don't have TOO far to travel, but it might just be the extra bit of reassurance that will make everyone feel better - - AND they can be tracked online!

Where is Spring going? I think it came and went here, it was up to 70 for a few days then we got dumped on with over a foot of wet, heavy snow, and we were without power or phone off and on for two days for hours at a time. Aaack! Now in two more days it's supposed to be 68 again, what crazy weather!

Anyways, all is well now, watch for my journal, I'm mailing it today, it's the first time the roads have been clear enough to get down off the mountain to go to the post office.

I spent the weekend in seattle, and im hoping that joy has sent another works in progress for me to work on.... im bored! theres nothing fun in my mailbox!!!!!

I have 3 books to send out. I am soooo sorry I am late. My yr old son has poor health and this past week it was bad. This next coming week he is having a surgerical procedure done, so I might be a little behind. It will depend how he responds to being on the ventilator...his lungs like to collapse due to lung disease and asthma. I can work on the books while I am at the hospital and have my hubby mail them for me.

The mailman just drove off - he rang my bell because today's deliveries were too big for my curbside box! !!! Included in today's haul was a package from Washingon state holding Mary B's and Joy's journals. I am going to get them out ASAP - preferrably by Thursday. I'm in so darned many swaps and I'm trying to get as much as possble out before the postal increase on the 14th!

As I've alluded to on some of these swap pages, sometime perhaps mid-summer, I'm thinking of having a "Hand-made" journal swap, like these - and I've just seen some gorgeous TINY journals - like 3"x5" (index card size), up to maybe 4" x 6" - I think that just might be perfect - toss the idea around in your heads a little bit, and let me know what you think....

I think it would be FUN - and would be SO easy to mail them!

BUT - - the "second ounce" rates are going DOWN! It used to be $.39 + $.24 (for the 2nd ounce) = $.63,

now it will be $.41 + $.17 = $.58!!

it's gonna PAY to write longer letters everyone!)

ALSO - "Priority" and "Express" packaging, even if it says "Domestic Use Only" will be valid for international mail!!!

My journal will be coming home soon, as it has been deemed too offensive to go on. I thought art was at the heart of this swap, and I was insensitive to the many types of people who use this website. My apologies to those who were offended. I will be careful not to put anything offensive in to anybody else's journals, and for those of you who are offended by anything I have already done in someone else's journal, please tear out the page.

I also want to note that referencing drugs on paper or in the air is not illegal. It's called Freedom of Speech.

Cara-Rae, I'm sorry to hear that. Your journal is certainly not what I'd want mine to be like, but those differences are what make journal swaps and art (and life) interesting. Yours was probably the most personalized journal as far as portraying who you are that I've seen yet, and I admire that about it in spite of the obscenities and subject matter.

Thanks to a wonderful suggestion (and I had not even thought of doing this) - to avoid receiving all the "swap reminders" for these round robins, I am moving the 'mail to' deadline date ahead -

this will not change anything in the swap, and it will not "open" it again, so no new people can slip in - but hopefully it will cut down on all those reminders coming into our inboxes.

Hi-I am wondering too about the journals. I think so far I have only received 3 or 4, and nothing for quite awhile.

there are AT LEAST two cases of "two or more journals" travelling together in this swap - that adds to the time spent on them, but also cuts down on the transit time overall.

Also, according to my information, quite a few of our journals have already been to 5 or 6 swappers - that is fabulous!

I send to Joy in this swap, and have not SENT her anything in a while, but I know that there are several "coming my way" soon, so that will get things moving again quickly - (the journals that are travelling together, especially)

These beauties ARE on the move, everyone, you have all been doing a great job of posting here - please do not worry, as I have heard from everyone, or seen posts by them in the past two weeks.

there are only a few people I have not heard from yet, but I do know where most of the journals are in ALL the swaps - there are several cases of "more than one journal" at one swapper's place - and that is true for one of these round robins.

I myself, have TWO journals, in two different swaps, and will be sending them off Tuesday - there are also (at least!) THREE cases of swappers who have FOUR or MORE journals right now - so these little gems ARE on the move - and lots of them are "same swap, travelling together" journals!

and yes, that means that you MAY be getting a truck load - so if you are "without" at the moment, enjoy the reprieve - it won't last long! hahaha

please be patient, do NOT give up, our journals ARE on the move!

I'm moving in a few weeks, so only have internet access at the library, for 30 minutes a day - to save some money for the move, etc, but I can only "check in once a day" then -

I havent been home for three weeks or so... Im in the middle of moving.... Im certain that by now joy has mailed me many books, so expect them out soon.... although theres a chance that they arent there yet??? I'll know tomarrow, but wont be able to be online... if they are their I will make a great effort to send by wednesday!

I'm really SO sorry, but cannot be online every day - I'm moving in a few weeks, and being on Disability, have turned off my internet to save some money -

I'm SO thrilled tho, seeing how wonderfully everyone is keeping in touch - if it ever DOES become an "emergency" you can surely call me - my phone number IS listed, and Huron, SD is a very small town, in area code 605.

please do not get discouraged anyone - this swap IS on the move - there's been a lot going on, with summer here, and lots of family stuff, as well as some emergencies, even -

Yippee!!! One to work on, and one to keep! Are there more of these going on right now??? This swap is a bit long :) but I think it is more inspiring than just sending someone goodies! I love 1001journals.com and have about a half a dozen journals out in the world.... so far only one is lost, the others I know where are!

Did Cara's Journal get sent home? I know there was some sort of issue, but I wanted to add to it for her, as art is in the eye of the creator..... ??? anybody know?

This swap has gone on long enough with NO comments, or commitment - it is time to send the journals HOME to their original owners!

If you have a journal that does not belong to you, please send it to its owner immediately! The name and address should be in the journal, since that was one of the first "rules" of this swap! If you do NOT have it, or need it, post your request HERE, on the message board, and I will get it to you, or the owner can do so.

If you have missed someone's journal, and would like to add a page or so to it, you can send pages to them directly.

Mary, since you have everyone's e-mail address, maybe you could e-mail everyone to find out who has them? Some people haven't logged in much and might not get a swap-bot message, otherwise I would message everyone myself to find out what's going on. These round robin swaps have been such a learning experience for me ( probably for all of us) - and I've really enjoyed every journal that I've been honored to be a part of - I know that I said earlier that I would be starting up another, soon after these wind down, but have re-thought that, and decided that I'm going to take a little break, when these are done.

I honestly never imagined that they would last as long as they did, but for me, that has not diminished the pleasure or inspiration that every one of them has brought my way.

Thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart, for sharing your art with me, for being so generous with your talents, by adding to my humble beginnings, and for taking such good care of each other's little gems.

Yes, I'd like to know where mine is too. Mary, what's the status of the email you were going to send? PLEASE SEND IT, you're the only one who has everyone's email address.

Mary is in the hospital, has been there for two weeks - she will be unable to add to any journals that come this way, but would forward them onward immediately.

She sends her apologies, for any problems that this may cause, and wishes all a happy holiday.

(On a personal note, speaking on behalf of her family, she is in very serious condition, so please say a prayer on her behalf.)

Has anyone received their finished journal back from this swap? Have they ALL disappeared? I haven't seen any in months, please let's try to get these journals back on their track. It's such a disappointment to put so much into this to have it all fall apart. Jewels

I have not seen mine. We need to get busy and leave messages for everyone to find those journals. I have been busy at the international one.

So please leave a message here if you have gotten your journal back. I will be leaving you a message privately to ask again. It isn't fair for someone to be holding onto these things.

Okay, I went back through all the comments, and here's what I came up with according to what everyone posted.

My journal (Jewels) is only recorded going from me to gramsbuttonbox to AlwaysJoy and no further? How disappointing!

Gramsbuttonbox's journal has been finished and sent home.

AlwaysJoy's journal has been finished and sent home.

Simplysarah has been suspended from swap-bot but her journal went all the way through the loop and AlwaysJoy should have it or send it home.

Jeanne3K's journal went all the way through the loop and Simplysarah should have it or send it home.

Sungazer has been suspended from swap-bot but her journal, which had some issues and got out of order, was worked on by 7 of us, not sure in which order.

inamerica's journal is recorded as making it as far as AlwaysJoy.

ncfysa's journal is recorded as making it as far as AlwaysJoy.

nykaren's journal is recorded as making it as far as AlwaysJoy.

JWJW2's journal is recorded as making it as far as AlwaysJoy.

Good sluething! Alwaysjoy did tell me she doesn't have anything but passed them on to simplysarah...... so perhaps she is our link to some of the journals and she was suspended back quite a few months. We need to be able to get her to respond to the emails...nothing has been bounced back, so she is getting them. Same with sungazer and jeanneK3.

We have one journal swap all straightened out, now to roll up the sleeves to do this one.

I sent Sarah an email, but she hasn't responded, maybe I'll send her off a snail-mail. I never had anything but a great swapping experience with her, and we swapped many times. I hope she's okay.
