I stumbled across blackout poetry in a swap here a long time ago, and I am surprised that there are no blackout poetry swaps currently running! This activity is fun, creative, and pretty gosh-darn cheap. All you need is a piece of text (book, newspaper, magazine article, etc.), a permanent marker (or other art supplies if you want to get creative), and your brain! For this swap, you will create a one-page blackout poem and send it to your partner. Feel free to create an entire image out of the page if you want to be extra artsy, but all that is required is simply to black out a majority of the words on the page you chose, and leave a few that create a poem. The steps to blackout poetry can be found here: https://www.powerpoetry.org/actions/5-tips-creating-blackout-poetry but I will also list instructions below. Step 1: Find one page of text from a book or newspaper Step 2: Skim the page for any "anchor" words--words that jump out at you or strike you as particularly deep or meaningful Step 3: Circle any words you think you'd like to use to construct your poem Step 4: Black out or otherwise draw over all of the other words on the page, so that all that is visible is your poem This swap will be available to swappers with a 4.5 rating and up, as well as newbies and unrated swappers. This is a pretty simple craft which costs relatively nothing to make, so I'm confident that a variety of swappers will be able to participate. The turnaround is one week, so be mindful! Feel free to contact me with any issues or questions. I will angel if necessary but I shouldn't have to! Let's have fun, folks! |
