The Swap

You can make a wonderful book/organiser made from envelopes.

This swap will be for 1 envelope book to 2 partners, 2 envelope books in total.

We will be using 5 letter envelopes of at least 15 x 11 cm (approx 6 x 4.25 in). The envelope books are to be decorated according to their intended use.

Here are a few ideas for what an envelope book can be used for:

  • storing seeds
  • storing paper scraps
  • holding recipes
  • pen pal organizer
  • a journal

You will post in the comments section what you intend to use your envelope books for so that your partners can decorate accordingly.

Wow, I was just looking at that website on the weekend, and said I would like to try it. I'm in. I'll use mine to hold the little cuts outs, or quotes for cardmaking.

Cloverst 03/26/2007 #

Great that you think it is a good idea! I would be using mine for holding paper scraps. Please make sure you give your partners a clear idea, i'd hate to decorate one and the recipient think 'oh wel i'd have prefered this' so be prepared to get anything you put down!

dietdew 03/26/2007 #

Sorry Clovest! I joined and forgot to write what I would use if for! To many irons in the fire! Any hoo~! I think I will use mine for penpals, as I'm starting some and ENJOYING !! it soooo much! So many nice and interesting people out there! Thanks for coming up with this fantastic swap!!

schlabs 03/27/2007 #

To my swap partner:

I will use it for my stickers.

Please remember when you do send your package to include your user name on the swap. It is easier to rate the right person that way!

Oh, this looks like FUN! My use will depend on the size of envelopes my partners use for the books. I think I would like more generically decorated books where I could add labels or categories myself. I think I have lots of ideas for my partners on my profile. If this isn't specific enough, let me know and I will narrow it down more. I know I will love whatever I receive! :D

dandelion 03/28/2007 #

Just me again! I read over the swap directions and realized that you want us to be specific. But I am a bit confused. Will each partner make us the same type of book then, since we will receive two books? I could use a book to store postage stamps in but probably wouldn't need two of those. Sorry, not meaning to be difficult, just confused. :D

Cloverst 03/29/2007 #

I did realise that people may end up with two books decorated similarly. The main reason I did it was just in case we did have a flake, it means you're almost guarrenteed to receive something. I guess you kind of have to be prepared to receive similar ones. If you want you could contact your partner directly and ask what they would like you to put on the labels, or you could just decorate it without labels. For example, if your partner was going to keep stamps or ltters in, you could leave off the labels and decorate it with letter ephemera.

Hope this helps

What a wonderful idea - Envelope Books! Gotta do this!

As for what I would use one for, it would depend on the size, but I'd use a small one (like the coin envelopes) for spare stickers probably. A large one I'd use to hold sheets of stationery, sheets of stickers, mailing labels, etc. - kind of a "Letter Writing" Book! I'd figure out something to put in them. I liked the one at the tutorial for seed packets and how the envelopes were themed with flower stickers, etc.

This is too cute!

Cloverst 03/29/2007 #

This swap if for the letter sized envelope books. (just to make sure we all receive the same) we'll be doing a smaller coin envie swap next menth if enough people think it's a good idea?

AngelFaeryKathleen 03/29/2007 #

Hi, I love making wee books, thanks for this swap. I will use by books for my collection of "quirky / quirkish quots. Please do not ues seeds, natural (undyed) feathers or bark as it will se stopped and burnt on entry into N.Z. Thank you.

user5925 03/31/2007 #

Hi @, I've allready done the "prototype" this night :-) Was great fun and i think i'll do more of them ... I'll use mine to storage the various paper scraps, little pics, labels and so on, that i use in my ATC's - so my partners can feel free to decorate them as they want - no special request from me (unless it has to be made with love and care) Greetings INgrid

pootle 03/31/2007 #

What a sweet idea - I too have made a prototype and am quite chuffed with the results! I'm in! Mine will be for storing little bits and pieces of nice papers, and it doesn't matter if I end up with two similar books as I've lots of paper to store in them!

Vlcatko 04/ 4/2007 #

What a great idea! I can't wait to start :)

I would like to use mine to store my smaller scrapbooking supplies: paper scraps, stickers, pictures...

user6264 04/ 5/2007 #

Hi, I'm thinking that I would like to use my envelope as a place to store inspirations for future art projects...quotes, artists, photos, great ideas, misc. I can see myself having lots of these envelopes with different themes: nature, architecture, animals, vintage, etc.

user5486 04/ 5/2007 #

Hi...This looks like fun...I have never done anything like this before so it will be a good challenge...

I will use my book for postcards.

user6604 04/ 7/2007 #

I will definantly use one for photos and the other one I am not sure just yet! I have quite a few of these that I have made for myself and they are fun to make!

Jill 04/ 8/2007 #

Hey, guys. This is right up my alley. Something new and different! I will be using mine for pictures and possibly a place to store my 'quotes' that I seem to collect!

Happy swapping/creating!!

memmu 04/ 9/2007 #

I just have to try this one too... :)! Sounds interesting! I could use mine for storing paper scraps and magazine cut-outs, maybe for stamps and stickers too.

Let's have fun :)!

user7417 04/ 9/2007 #

I'm going to work on a proto-type this week, so fun!

I think I'll use mine as journals/scrapbooks for an upcoming camping trip :)

mediatinker 04/11/2007 #

I'm going to use mine as idea files.

PostMuse 04/12/2007 #

I hope people post pictures of their creations in the gallery here. I tried to create one of these but couldn't come up with something I'd want to send to someone, so I didn't sign up. I'd love to be inspired by the Swap-Bot artists :-)

user5486 04/12/2007 #

I just realized we will get two...Giggles...I will used my other one to store my used stamp collection...

Prpldy 04/12/2007 #

I will be using one of mine to store used postage stamps and the other one to store quotes. Hope that helps.

user2031 04/12/2007 #

I will use mine to store ideas from magazines and such. Also, for ephemera collected when I'm out.
