Description:

For this swap we will be swapping quilting blocks! (18")

2 blocks to 1 partner.

It is a BOM quilt from 2011, by TK Harrison. Very cute and easy quilt! Great for beginners and advanced quilters alike! This original design for BOMquilts.com and AbbiMays.com! I chose it because it looks like it would be scrap friendly--in moderation!

Finished Quilt Size:

69″ x 89″. The monthly patterns can be found (for free) at: https://bomquilts.com/free-original-bomquilts-com-patterns/free-block-of-the-month-quilt-pattern-purely-nine/

Rating:

If you get your block and it meets requirements please rate a 5. Hearts, as always, are at your discretion. Please no quilt police - we all try to do our best and I really want these swaps to be inviting and not stressful. However, with that in mind I do understand that measurements are super important with quilting...so if the block is more than 1/8" off, please give the swapper the chance to re-do the square for the full 5.

For This Swap:

We will be doing Quilt squares #1 and #2. The directional links are below:

Introduction: [https://www.bomquilts.com/BOM2011/PurelNine-Intro.pdf]

Block #1 Nine-Patch: https://www.bomquilts.com/BOM2011/PurelNine-Block1.pdf

Block #2 Practical Orchard: https://www.bomquilts.com/BOM2011/PurelNine-Block2.pdf

Color Rules:

Scrappy materials, in 3 main colors. The Quilt pattern calls for Brown, Blue, and White. Since we are doing these scrappy, please feel free to change your "brown" to a "blue" or "purple" and use that criteria for the whole square... These should be prints, no solids - this is meant to be scrappy. Generally, smaller scale prints work best. Also, please watch the VALUE of the blocks (dark vs. light). Fabrics should be 100% cotton.

Working Ahead:

Please feel free to work ahead on the blocks, as it is not color/profile specific...

Your Blocks

that you mail SHOULD BE 18 1/2" X 18 1/2" each (which will finish in the final quilt at 18" x 18").

Let's have fun with this! Please ask any questions below and I will answer them as quick as possible. Private message me for faster responses. Rating of 4.98 or higher required. Any recent 1s or 3s please message me first. Newbies message me first (after you have filled out your profile).

Future Swaps:

I will keep hosting these swaps every month until we have all 12 squares finished!

PLEASE NOTE: This is my first time hosting. I want this to be a successful series, so if you see anything I did not mention, or need to change, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks for hosting! That's what makes groups stay alive!

Possible things to change:

  1. specify that fabric should be 100% cotton.

  2. "if it is way off please" could be "if the block is more than 1/8" off, please..." {or whatever criteria you want that is objective}

  3. You could specify that the fabric VALUES should be followed as shown in the directions. 'Value' refers to how light or dark the fabric is. It really is what conveys the pattern as it was designed...

I would love to join but if I thought I would possibly receive a block with brown as one of the main prints - sadly that turns me off, and isn't grabbing me......if the color choices are scrappy and senders choice I might be disappointed with what I get simply because I don't care for brown in my quilts. However, if the color options where blue, white and recipients choice, that would have me on board in a heartbeat because then I could say, "please NO BROWN". Yes, I am sorry to be spoiled. To me Brown screams 1970 1980, 1990....However, I could get real happy with even gray, or black instead of brown.....just a spoiled swappers point of view.

May I request that I NOT receive blocks with brown in them? I will be perfectly happy with scrappy blue, white and purple ins my receiving blocks. Please and thank you. If my partner wants brown I can do brown, but I would rather NOT receive brown. Please and thank you.

Mine will not be having brown in it unless you request it specifically. I don't have very much brown because that's not really a favorite color for me but I'm willing to go buy it if need be.

The links above are both for block 1, not block 1 & 2

I'm not a fan of brown either. the blue and purple were examples of some other color to switch to... @perkl8r please choose a color scheme that you like. I think I may go with blues, purples, greens, etc. since I have the most of those. definitely not brown. Don't have any, don't care for it. I think this set may be purple and green. next swap may be green and blue. or even blue and purple. Those are my go-to colors.

please do not feel restricted by the original colors of the quilt. choose your own. I have tried to turn this into a SCRAPPY quilt. I am not going out to buy new fabrics at all! I will be using my stash for this.

well, I am excited for this swap and hoping that I won't have too much postage to turn me off of it in future rounds....INTERNATIONAL swaps are my favorite except the nasty POSTAGE tends to sour me on them.

thank you! perkl8r

I think it would be really cool if the colors we choose are based on our partner's color preferences. That way they get blocks in colors they favor but it still looks scrappy.

The directions for making Block #2 are incorrect.

blues, purples and greens with white for me too....love that mix
