Hey hey! It's July, which means it's summertime, which means I've got CAMP on the brain. As adults, we might go camping, but we rarely go to CAMP. So here's the idea: let's imagine we're spending a couple of weeks or even a month off at camp, instead of doing our normal, boring, everyday adult routines. What are the activities we've got to choose from? Is there an arts & crafts barn, a mandatory swimming requirement, an outward-bound hike where you sleep in the woods with nothing between you and nature but a flimsy tent? Will your fellow campers stick frogs in your sleeping bag or dunk you in the lake? Is the food awesome or awful? Are you sneaking a counselor some of the money you've squirreled away for adult beverages or decent snacks? Heck, what's the name of this crazy camp of yours, and are all your friends there, or did your parents ship you off to some snooty band camp where you've got to wear a uniform and practice the flute 8 hours a day (sorry, flashbacks to Blue Lake there...)? Think about what you'd do if you were at camp, RIGHT NOW. Grab a note card or postcard (bonus points if it's camp related!) and write a quick note explaining how things are going at your sleep-away camp. Creativity encouraged! The crazier the camp story, the better! If you're totally stumped I recommend viewing one or more of the following for some camp inspiration: Addams Family Values, The Parent Trap (1961, starring Hayley Mills as twins), Troop Beverly Hills, Meatballs And/or listen to Allen Sherman's classic tune "Camp Grenada": https://youtu.be/e3_xiUYMnXA |
