Description:

I'm sure other swappers will have their own versions of Christmas exchanges. A couple years back, I read an article about people on Craigslist that were creating ads in search of a temporary family for the holidays. These people were willing to pay money so that they wouldn't be alone on Thanksgiving and Christmas. How bizarre, right? The holidays can be the happiest time but also the most stressful. No, I'm not asking for a temporary family! I myself wouldn't mind being someone's Secret Santa.

With that being said, here are my guidelines for this swap to keep things clear and easy for everyone:

-This is a $12 budget exchange (not including shipping charges and before tax). Unless you and your partner have agreed on a different amount, that is the budget.

-I would love a letter about what you do during this time of year, or what you plan to do. Introduce yourself! It would be cool if we made some pen pals while doing this.

-gifts must be wrapped

-no brainer here, but give something you would want to receive! Make a gift basket, bake some goodies (check for allergies/dislikes) - make it your own... Whatever you want so long as it checks out.

-be sure to rate appropriately. Communication is key. If you know you are going to mail late - talk to your partner.

-handmade and store bought is allowed. I do understand that handmade items cost more than just money, but the person's time. I would still like that element involved because handmade gifts are unique and always appreciated. Take this as a personal challenge to make something within the budget, or ask your partner if it's okay to agree on another budget. If not, then store bought is fine.

-unfortunately, I have to exclude people who haven't done at least 15 type 3 swaps. If you don't have 15 type 3s - no worries. I'm posting at least a month in advance to give you some time to reach 15.

-minimum of a 4.98 rating.

-this is a profile-based swap.

-unless they specify otherwise, please no religious items.

-I unfortunately cannot angel. Do not sign up if you cannot participate. It's really crummy when people don't receive their swap.

-most importantly... Have fun with this! I would like for everyone to get a gift.. no flakes.

I know it's a lot of stuff to remember, but I want to keep it fair for everyone involved. Happy Holidays, and keep swapping!

UPDATE As the date gets closer, the window for getting 15 type 3 swaps is getting smaller. Please please PLEASE... Do not add yourself to the swap until you have 15 type 3s (that were rated). I will ban you. No if, ands, or buts.

Not sure I understand the "not more/not less than $12." It is almost impossible to buy something and get it to be right at $12. There is tax, etc. So, if something came to $11.97, I'd have to find something for three cents to stick in the package?

That sentence just opens this up to people receiving 3 ratings for those swappers that feel they "just have to rate a 3" because it doesn't meet swap requirements.

@LMeowkin - I could see how that's misleading. Being from Delaware myself, I didn't think about taxes LOL. I don't think anybody will be too nit picky about it... I will figure out how to rewrite that so it is clear to other people. Sorry about that.

Cool, cool - sounds good now!

"-unfortunately, I have to exclude people who haven't done at least 15 type 3 " that's great to hear.

You may want to check that they are rated for those type 3 swaps not just marked them sent.

Frawggy 09/28/2016 #

Yes, I will make sure they are marked sent.

You need to see that they are rated for those swaps as well ask marked that's proof they were received by their partner not just marked sent. ; )

I like to check my partner's profile so I can send them something they will like. Makes it more fun!

I am brand new to swap bot. I've completed one swap and just (sent) my my second. Now I've signed up for 5 more ... that's the limit for new swappers. Anyhow, It's so frustrating to see really cool swaps such as this one and know that I can't participate because I don't have enough swaps completed and rated. I'd LOVE to participate and I guarantee I'd be an awesome swap partner! I don't know how I'd possibly have 15 completed swaps in time for this, but I assure you; once I do, I am confident I'll have all 5's. I'm meticulous, send awesome swaps (because that's what I'd like to get in return), and put a whole lot of effort in... that's what it's all about right?

Disclaimer.. I understand "why" this is done, I just don't like it because I know I'd be a great swapper. Rant over, -hoping to find other amazing swaps that I "can" participate in.

@MackeySwaps - first I'd like to say welcome to Swapbot! I know how it feels to be the newbie (I started in June). There are swaps I even still can't participate in (ex: groups who have known their members since forever). I understand your frustration... I thought it was a little nit-picky that some people would kick me out or set ridiculous standards. This is the first time I've held a swap like this and it honestly makes me a little nervous. I've never had any problems with receiving a swap or complications when it comes to being a host. There will be many other opportunities for swaps like this... I'm sure of it. My best advice is to have fun with the swaps you have now and don't overload yourself (which was a huge problem of mine... Taking way too many swaps!). Best way to accumulate type 3 swaps (for me anyway), was to do postcards and ATCs. I love making ATCs especially. :)

@Margothecat - that's good to hear. It kind of challenges you to think of something good within the budget they might like.
