Definition: Flash fiction and flash creative nonfiction are pieces of writing between 500 and 1500 words. You may be familiar with flash fiction but not with creative nonfiction. Nonfiction is a true story, it earns the "creative" part because it's told in the first person with the same attention to detail as in flash fiction. Why: As a writer's group I feel we should have at least one swap that requires creative writing each month and I will attempt to post one each month. I will include a somewhat general prompt. For February the prompt is to include a game -- a childhood game, a board game, any group activity considered a game (there are dozen, maybe hundreds) Type 3: I've listed this as a type 3 because you will be practicing your craft, creative writing. Partners: Since I think most of us write on computers, I have put 2 partners because it's not difficult to print two copies and I enjoy reading other people's writing and maybe you do too. Time frame: I will give two weeks for sign up and two before the send by date. Of course, you can write your piece as soon as you sign up-- it's a good idea to begin thnking about your story when you sign up. I did this prompt with a group recently, most wrote about actual experiences playing games -- it was an easy topic -- they wrote creative nonfiction. If the term is new to you, you can google it. |
