Description:

A Day Devoted to Strengthening the Ideals of Peace

International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by resolution, the United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. Furthering the Day’s mission, the General Assembly voted unanimously in 2001 to adopt a resolution establishing 21 September as an annual day of non-violence and cease- fire.

Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, sitting in silent meditation, or doing a good deed . . . it can involve getting people engaged in a large (or small) event . . . or share thoughts, messages and pictures to commemorate Peace Day.

In honor of the International Day of Peace on September 21st, let's celebrate by exchanging handmade postcards. Each participant will have 1 partner. Postcards are to contain words and/or images that support this day of peace. These can be hand drawn, hand painted, collaged, or otherwise represented by you, the sender. Let's make them artistic!

This is a short turn-around swap so you need not wait to be assigned a partner to create your postcard. Postcards can be 4-1/4" x 6" or any larger size as long as they have the correct amount of postage affixed. Somewhere on your card have the words "Celebrate International Day of Peace", and sign with your name and swap-bot name on the back.

Thank you for joining this swap! Let's celebrate PEACE!
