Description:

Here's a simple swap that will bring out your innate creativity.

  1. Collect words that you are attracted to from magazines, newspapers, and other printed materials.

  2. When you have a good collection of words, select a handful -- maybe 10 - 20 words. Use those words to write a poem. You can use a few of your own words to fill in the gaps, but limit your own words as much as possible.

  3. Put your poem on a postcard, ATC card, or greeting card. Decorate as you wish. Then send it off to your partner.

  4. Repeat. ;-) You'll have 3 partners, so you'll be creating 3 poems and cards.

Have fun!

Can you use the same poem and just make 3 "cards" -- one for ea. partner?? Just curious.

Susi 01/29/2007 #

hmmm, this sounds interesting... almost like the other randon poetry swap I did a while back. Maybe I'll give it a shot... susi

My original thought was that you would use the words you cut out as part of the art/card you create with your poem. It would be fun to see what words inspired the poem you wrote and to see the different fonts/backgrounds.

That's just how I envisioned it. I don't expect everyone to do this. I don't want to add a lot of rules. Let your poetry lead you to create in whatever way you'd like.

Kinda reminds me of refrigerator magnet poetry things.

AshleyShea 02/10/2007 #

You got it, Lyndsey! That's a cool poem.

Susi 02/11/2007 #

What about phrases? I have been cutting words and phrases, as well as pictures from magazines, and I have plenty that would make a great poem. Would you accept that? Or do you just want single words? Thats cool too, is fo. susi

AshleyShea 02/14/2007 #

You can use phrases, too. Not a problem! ;-)

CraftyDiana 02/15/2007 #

sounds like so much fun!!

Susi 02/19/2007 #

I\'ve been sorting my words/phrases from my pictures, so here goes! Wish me luck! I am going to do 4-5 pharses, probably 5..and just like you said, pick them randomly from my baggie. Let\'s see what I come up with! I have some great words and phrases, so they ought to be interesting at the least! They\'ll probably turn out to be a mixture too. I\'ll know when the poem is done though, I\'m prettu sure! susi

Just wanted to say that I sent mine off to Bellingham WA, Las Vegas, NV, and Stoughton, MA last Saturday, but with the storms here, our internet connections have been very unreliable, so just getting this info posted now. (Cheryl, Lyndsey and Shari, hope you enjoy them.) This was FUN to do, have a good week everyone.

Susi 02/23/2007 #

I got a very nice atc poem from Cheryl today, not 10 words, but very nice all the same! remind me to rate you when it's time pls! susi

I received your poem, Gram's button box. Awesome! Thanks! I'm glad you had fun creating your poems for this swap.

Clayshaper 03/ 1/2007 #

Mine will be sent a day or so late, with my sincere apologies!! I let procrastination get the best of me, and then we got a ton of snow dumped on us... which means I couldn't mail them yesterday before the 'deadline'- I promise to have them in the mail late tonight or tomorrow AM. No fretting, I'll get 'em on their way!

gramsbuttonbox 03/ 5/2007 #

CraftyDiana - WOW, I just got your "extras" - thank you SO much, can hardly wait til your poetry gets here! I'll be watching for it, knowing it's on the way! (and that handmade envie was really special!)

gramsbuttonbox 03/ 5/2007 #

Cariemay - I got your lovely atc today - it is very beautiful. I liked your background also - (I'm hosting a handmade collage swap, it made me think of that, seeing those neat pens all in a row) - and it got here pretty quickly, postmarked the 26th, halfway around the world!
thanks again, have a great week, MaryB

Hi GramsButtonBox! I mailed the extra treat and the poetry on the same day...odd that they didn't arrive together, Oh well, that the post office for ya! Hopefully the poem arrives soon. Please let me know! :) Diana

Hi Kelly Erickson! I received a pretty poem from you today with a note at the bottom that the poem was comprised of people's blog titles. Maybe I was wrong, but wasn't this swap supposed to be words cut from magazines and newsprints? I spent a really long time cutting and pasting my three poems and yours was simply printed off the computer. I have no intention of giving you a bad rating as you clearly made the effort, but I think you may have misunderstood the swap. Just wanted to let you know. :)

Clayshaper 03/ 9/2007 #

Oh am I so embarassed. I didn't get mine in the mail... they got stuck in a pile of stuff that wasn't quite finished and wasn't due yet, even tho I swore I'd mail them out... They're great, and i'll upload some pictures tonight if I can figure out how- Hopefully they will arrive super quick too! I can get them right out, now that I caught my mistake. BIG apologies. seriously, my bad. :(

Clayshaper 03/ 9/2007 #

I could NOT figure out the flickr thing... but you can view my pictures at my blog, which is: http://clayshaper.livejournal.com and has pictures of the cards/poetry on them. :) Yay!

CraftyDiana 03/10/2007 #
