Description:
Alfred Lord Tennyson, one of my favorites. One of his very famous poems is, 'The Lady of Shalott' (that for you Anne of Green Gables fans, inspired the scene in the book/movie where Anne lays in the rowboat reciting the poem, clutching a small bouquet, until she realizes she's sinking and has to cling to a bridge until Gilbert rows by and rescues her). 'Charge of the Light Brigade' is another often quoted poem of his ("Forward the Light Brigade!") Tennyson also wrote the famous words: "It's better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all." There are so many great Tennyson poems to choose from, as the Sender you choose the poem and postcard design to send your partner. Quality handmade or store bought postcard may be used. The picture above is a painting by John William Waterhouse inspired by The Lady of Shalott by Tennyson. Here is an excerpt from that poem: "Willows whiten, aspens shiver The sunbeam showers break & quiver In the stream that runneth ever By the island in the river Flowing down to Camelot Four gray walls, and four gray towers Overlook a space of flowers And the silent isle imbowers The Lady of Shalott" International, 4.98 to join, no recent (past 12mon) or unexplained bad ratings.

Oh I love Tennyson and especially the Lady of Shalott! My favourite singer made a beautiful song out of it! :)

Oh that's great! I must have posted at just the right time, I had just hit the button to complete the swap and was reading it over to check for any mistakes and saw you joined @owlsinathens I love Lady of Shalott as well! Im curious what singer it is you mentioned? There are also some spectacular Tennyson inspired paintings by John William Waterhouse, The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood Painter. Thanks for joining! :)

Loreena McKennitt :) She has also made The Highwayman by Alfred Noyles (maybe he could make an appearance in a further swap? :)) and she's really good at that kind of thing :)

I am really looking forward to this, have selected a Poem and now I'm searching for the right pc!^^

I love the pre-raphaelites, especially Collier (eg. Lady Godiva) and of course Waterhouse (all of his to be honest :))

Oh that's wonderful! Thank you for giving me her name too. Its so funny, I was torn between Tennyson & Noyes for this 4th swap. I've had the "highwayman" in my head for days, I saw it in a movie recently and one of the characters recited it so often in the film its stuck in my head.("The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor, and the highwayman came riding...the highwayman came riding up to the old inn door.") The movie is called "Summer in February" and Dominic Cooper plays the poet who loves to recite the "highwayman", to make the ladies swoon, lol. Sounds like we have a lot of similar interests, Im I in love with all the Pre-Raphaelites too, I know the Lady Godiva one your talking about its beautiful. I will do Alfred Noyes for the 5th Poetry on a Postcard. :)

Then I will definitely join :) Uuuuh Dominic Cooper... He nearly ruined Sense and Sensibility for me... I really don't like his GIANT pop eyes and face in general. :p No, my Willoughby is Greg Wise :) But in Mamma Mia Cooper was ok :)

When Loreena McKennitt sings these old poems it's double magic!! :)

Ha! I thought the same thing about Cooper in Sense & Sensibility, otherwise that was my favorite version. And I watched it recently and realized Matthew from Downton Abbey is Edward in that one!

Yeah the brits are everywhere :) Gotta love them movies and I am always so happy when I recognize someone :) Of course this adaptation is great but I am a sucker for Alan Rickman... swoon The look when he sees Marianne (gotta love English Rose Kate :)) for the first time^^

How about Seamus Heaney for a future poem on a postcard? Also, maybe Gerard Manley Hopkins???? I do LOVE figuring out what he is saying and love the alliteration, imagery, and altered sentence construction, and of course, his sprung rhythm.

I so agree with you @owlsinathens Alan Rickman was the best Colonel Brandon, I loved that version! And most definitely @PeggyO I will do Seamus Heaney & Gerard Manley Hopkins, Im not familiar with their work so I will enjoy reading their poetry since it will be new to me! I love being introduced to new poetry! Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions!
