Description:

For this swap, you will hand make (no copies please) 2 post cards depicting one and the same word from a dictionary. You may use any material/medium, such as paper, fabric, beads, ribbon, as long as it can be safely mailed naked. Make the PCs the same or different - it\\'s your choice.

Get yourself a dictionary - any language is fine as this is an international swap - and open it only once at random. With your eyes closed, point to the page. Your postcards will depict the word to which you have pointed. It can be literal or abstract - the choice is yours, but the word must actually be included in the postcard artwork somehow - typed, handwritten, embroidered, stamped, etc. If the word is not English, please provide a translation in your written message to your partners.

You will send one postcard on the same word to 2 different partners.

New members are welcome. I reserve the right to ban anyone who has a history of no sends (if you feel these are unfair ratings, please contact me to discuss) or who has not completed their profile.

Hope this is clear! Have fun!

*Feb. 21 - Please contact me if you have not received your swaps by March 26 and I will send you a postcard. Sorry, but I can only send postcards to people who contact me by that date. Thx. Tassy

My word is \"marsupial\" so I made a postcard of a photo I took of a koala. Hope that was ok.

I wasn't really thinking of photos when I said hand make (no copies please). My interpretation of a photo is that it is not hand made -- although it can be art --- but a copy of an image that can be reproduced exactly the same over and over again. I also didn't want anything digitally produced for the same reason. I was going for something truly "handmade". Now if you took a photo and did something manually to it --- like hand develop/print it, colour or embroider it, or frame it somehow by hand --- that would have been acceptable. Too bad you didn't ask me before the deadline, but I will leave it up to your partner to decide whether it meets the swap requirements once she/he sees it.

I have just read the comments here and feel a bit torn. My cards for this swap were made using a couple of different photos and adding text and decoration to the images. From what you described in your comment on 02/26/2007 my cards wouldn't meet your criteria. My cards may have been digitally produced but that doesn't mean that I didn't spend time and effort to make them and I'll be really disappointed if they're deemed to not meet the swap requirements since the swap description said that using any medium was fine and didn't mention that digital art was not allowed. :(

From the other end of things.. I recieved both of my cards today and I really liked yours in particular Tassy. It's only my second ever fabric postcard. Thankyou!

scherre, given that you used different photos, and added text and decoration to the images, they would meet the swap requirements. I just didn't want someone to take and print a photo, write on the back and mail it. I have received some like that and, to be frank, I find it insulting when I have put time and effort into making something by hand. Sorry if I upset you, didn't mean to, and I'm glad you explained what you did to produce your PCs. I hope either you or your partner can post and share with us! T.
