Description:

For this swap, we'll be making and sending tags, and sharing a bit about the technique(s) we used in the creation of those tags.

You'll start by pulling out your Gelli/gelatin plate and getting your print on! You can either print directly onto the tags themselves, or cut your prints down to the specified tag size. Tags must be made from cardstock or even heavier weight paper; you may create your actual print on any type of paper you'd like and then adhere the print to cardstock cut to tag size. Feel free to add non-printing techniques/media as you wish, just no bulky embellishments, please. Punch a hole in the top of your tag so that your partner may store them all on a ring or what have you.

On the backs of your tags, please share information about how your tags were created. Include any techniques/media that were used. You don't have to write a book, but include enough info that your partner would be able to follow the instructions to create something similar in the future. The idea is to end up with several tags to have on hand that we can use for inspiration and instruction.

The details:

  • 3 tags for 1 partner.
  • Minimum size for tags is 2 1/2" x 4". You can make them larger if you'd like, but nothing over 4" x 6".
  • Tags must be made of cardstock or heavier weight paper.
  • Punch a hole in the top middle portion of your tag along the shorter edge. If the tag is 2 1/2" x 4", the hole would be along the 2 1/2" side.
  • Include instructions on the back of the tags for the techniques and media used in its creation.
  • Sender's choice in color, theme, style, etc.

Edited to add: Unsure what direction to go in? Need some inspiration or to try out some new techniques? The Gelli Arts blog has lots of information that can help you create some tags for this swap.

Any questions? Just ask!

should the tags each be a different technique? As a newbie-to-gelli-printing, it would be nice to have tag swaps with assigned techniques or 'pick 3 from these 5 techniques', too... (can you tell I don't much know what I'm doing yet???) thanks much!

You make a good point, @gooddog56 . Feel free to use the same techniques for all 3 tags, but maybe change up the colors or something to make them each a bit different. You can also view this swap as "inspiration tags", so coming up with a fancy new technique for each one is not necessary; they can serve as inspiration and will still have the info on the back to allow someone to follow along and create something similar.

Hope this helps!

And I will keep it in mind for future tag swaps that adding a list of techniques to choose from will be helpful. Thank you!

Thanks much for your prompt response!

You are most welcome!

Is this supposed to be a finished tag with focal point etc? Or is it just the background?

bluemonkeymama 08/23/2014 #

It can be just a background, or you can add a focal point if you want, your choice.

Ooo, I like that idea, @gooddog56 ! I certainly don't know what I'm doing, either.

I'm going to join this swap, and hope I do it to my partners satisfaction, by telling her what I did, whether right or wrong. It might just end up being a technique in the end, lol.
