Description:

I love anything pertaining to genealogy, but I don't often see "family history" or "family tree" swaps. So here's a swap for my fellow family history buffs!

Put together a family tree that you can share with your partner. The tree must include a minimum of 31 names, but you can add more if you'd like.

Ideally, your tree will include as many names of your ancestors (going back to your 2nd great grandparents) as possible -- for example, if you include yourself, both parents, both sets of grandparents, all four sets of great-grandparents, and all eight sets of great-great grandparents, that equals 31 names.

However, I'm very aware that in genealogy there are "brick walls" (meaning information you're simply unaware of and unable to access)... so if you don't know the names of some of your ancestors, feel free to meet the 31-name minimum by including other family members (siblings, children, aunts, uncles, etc.) instead.

If your tree includes family members who are still living, and you don't wish to use their full names, it's fine to use just a first or last name, or initials -- but please still indicate the relationship on your tree.

Please also include an approximate birth year (and death year, if applicable) and birth location (again, death location, too, if applicable) for each name on your tree.

Be as artistic as you'd like to with your tree, but this is not a requirement. However, your tree does need to be legible, as detailed as possible, and show some effort! (The names and information can be typed or handwritten, as long as your partner is able to read it.)

Finally, mail your tree to your partner along with a flat item that symbolizes your family's roots... this can be a postcard from a location where your ancestors lived, some copies of family photos (please make sure they're decent copies), an ATC, etc. No torn, dirty, smelly, or otherwise junky items... you're representing your family, after all! :-)

Summary:

1.) Create a family tree with a minimum of 31 names on it; make the information as detailed as possible (include names, birth/death dates, and birth/death locations).

2.) Your tree doesn't need to be "artistic", but it must be neat and legible.

3.) Mail the tree to your partner along with a flat item that symbolizes your family's roots.

Minimum rating 4.96. (If your rating is lower than this but you'd really like to take part in this swap, PM me and we can possibly arrange a private swap.) Newbies welcome with very filled-out profiles. I will ban anybody who obviously doesn't meet requirements through the signup period, and I'll do a thorough profile check before assigning partners. I reserve the right to ban anybody who I think might cause issues with the swap.

I'll angel if necessary but please don't flake.

Thanks for joining and I hope you'll have fun with this swap! :-)

So pleased you decided to do this swap - I am so excited about it!!

Just want to check though, does the tree have to fit on one page? or can it be spread over several?

@cathlud -- glad to have you in the swap! :-)

@zoev1975 -- several pages is fine; I know mine will be at least a couple of pages. :-) I think this is one of those swaps that could be either Type 2 or Type 3, depending on how one presents it.
