I have a new swap that I started if anybody is interested. Its my first swap actually, its a "favorite desserts" atc swap.

Great swap idea. I don't currently have the time to join this swap, but I have participated in a Day of the Dead ATC swap before on another group, and have all the ATC's I made posted in my Flickr if anyone wants to take a look. (Link to flickr on my profile page)

susi is correct..."dia de los muertos" is the correct wording :)

I stand corrected on the "muertos" part, but some celebrate 2 days (or dias): November 1, Día de Muertos Chiquitos and Día de los Muertos is on November 2nd. Anyway, I say, let's have fun with the day (or days)!

Thank you cupcakechica. I wish the coordinator would fix (edit) it, because it drives me crazy every time I see it written this way! Am I being terrible? It's just a pet peeve of mine, that's all.

you're welcome Susi! you're not being terrible. it's driving me crazy too. my spanish is FAR from perfect but in english or spanish I get anal when it comes to grammer and spelling. I sent her a polite PM letting her know that it's gramatically incorrect. :)

I'm not the host of this swap but I live in Mexico so I can tell you that one of the important parts of this celebration is to remember those persons that have departed. Thus we make an altar with their photos and the food and things they loved the most. It is believed that during those days the souls of the dead come back and celebrate by our sides and seeing all the things they loved makes them feel joy. So I personally believe it's ok for you to honour your grandmother.

Hi! im not in this swap either, but im mexican and it is Dia de los muertos, i agree with sstudebaker17 about the 2 days, but one of them is not called "dia de los muertos" its called "dia de los santos inocentes" that day is to honour the children. So is day not days, anyways this idea sounds great! :)))

I looked it up. If anyone is waiting for the answer ATC's are 2 1/2" X 3 1/2".

Can someone explain to me how this works? When should my ATCs be ready to send out? Also, where do I get blank ATCs? This sounds fun! Carolyn

You can use anything for an ATC. A box you cut up, old greeting card cut up, cardstock. You the artist, have the pick of what you want it to be.

when u say 'anything' does it also include stuff from the hardware store like antiquing stains for furniture, or do i need to use acid free stuff only?

quick question-originals only? or can i keep my original and send a high quality print?

People use all sorts of materials for ATCs-- not just acid-free... Re; original vs a copy: I guess it depends on your ATC-- some are layered, etc. Usually, the original is sent. I keep copies of every one I make. I think that you have to use your own judgement on this one-- would you want to receive the original or the copy? Anyone with a rating of 4.6 can join-- international, newbies-- just make sure you e-mail and let me know if there are any unjustified no-sends....

Dear sstudebaker- i think Mahanna was asking you HOW can she participate rather than can she. I am getting ready to start the ATC's and hoping they will all be really great- I live in New Mexico and there is a lot of Dia de Los Muertos 'energy' and influence here!

Working on my ATCs... it's pretty fun! I've made lots of postcards before, but the smaller format is quite a different ball game.

I don't want to get too carried away, so can some of you tell me how thick these can be?

I've had some sent to me that are about 1/4" thick. They don't easily fit into card holders but...

I celebrate "the day of the dead" since I have had so many loved ones pass. Question- since usually the altar, shrine, display is specific to the person I am honoring, if I am sending these ATCs to some that does not know my loved ones should they be generic? Like just skulls and decorations? Suggestions please, I want them to be pleasing to the receiver.

Moonspider-- make a card as nice as you would want to receive. If you make one in honor of a loved one, you might want to tell your swap partner a little bit about that person, etc. I am always amazed at the range of cards that I receive... they're all special in their own way. Anyone else with suggestions?
