Description:

I received permission from @kgeslab to use and adapt her Map Your Reading 1st Quarter swap for the group. If you read a lot of International books, her swap will be good for you, sign-ups end Jan 31st. If you are like me though, where 99% of the settings for the books you read are within the USA, then this swap is for you.

For this swap, you will print out a map of the USA, with all the states individually marked, such as THIS MAP. Print it out on a standard 8x11/A4 page, making it as big as will fit.

Then for each book that you read, number the book in order that you read it, and put that number in the main state in which the book took place. If it covered several states, just use it once for the main state. On another piece of paper, write out the title of the book and author along with the number. You may write directly on the map, if you don't read very much, but if you think your map would be cluttered over the 3 months (this will be for the 1st Quarter of the year) then just do the numbering with the list on a separate paper.

I will make this open to International members, as many of you may read books within the States, but this swap is only for a USA map, no other maps.

Recap ~

  • Print out a map of the USA with states
  • Mark each book you read for the 1st Quarter (Jan, Feb, Mar) on the map
  • You can number the map with the list of books on another page, or you can write each book on the map itself.
  • Send to your partner after Mar ends

I hope you all will enjoy!

I think I'm going to join both swaps, because I read lots of books set in the USA but lately a lot of international ones as well. May I send my world map along with the USA state one, as I'm making it for the other swap anyway?

Absolutely, you can send both, I bet your partner will love that! :)

This looks really fun!

Wow, this is much harder than I thought it'd be! I guess I don't pay attention to cities when I read. Managed to find them all though, except the made-up, future, dystopian cities. ;) I kinda want to mark those on Fresno on the map....

KateKintail 02/ 4/2014 #

@user2637 LOL! I am running into a book where I know the city... but not the state! I have been asking around on discussion forums and ever the author's website. The book's wiki doesn't even have a state. Ah!

ImzadiRose 02/ 4/2014 #

I had a book yesterday where it said a town, but never a state, it's a made up town in some southern state, so I'm just not going to use it.

It doesn't have to be perfect, just the ones that you can. I know I can't do all my books either, for the made up and dystopian reads. It's fun doing it for the ones that I can.

user2637 02/11/2014 #

I've got 6 states already! :)

ImzadiRose 02/20/2014 #

Awesome Ray! I'm just getting to starting mine now. I know I have a bunch of dystopia books I can't use, but I think I have a good mix from the rest.

ImzadiRose 02/20/2014 #

So far, 14 books in 9 different states for me.

user2637 03/18/2014 #

I'm up to 9 states, but 26 books. Nine of them weren't in the US and several of the others were in a series, thus all in the same location. I'm trying for at least one more state. :)

ImzadiRose 03/19/2014 #

Several of mine weren't in the states or were in a future where they didn't really specify a location. I'm up to 22 books in 12 states. I have a bunch in one location too, with 5 books each in 2 states.
