Description:

Red, White, & Blue Mail Art Swap

You can use any medium and style -i.e. (painting, drawing, stamping, collage, mixed media, etc.) as long as the majority of your mail art is decorated in the colors RED, WHITE, & BLUE

Your mail art may be in the form of an envelope or a handmade postcard.

  • If you choose to create envelope mail art please include inside the envie: a card, note, or some other kind of flat surprise for your partner (Just don't send the envelope empty :-)

  • If you choose to create postcard mail art please write on the back a brief and friendly note for your partner

I am allowing both envelope and postcard mail art because:

  1. Some people prefer creating mail art envies (I am one of those people) while others prefer handmade postcard mail art. So in order to not exclude anyone, both forms of mail art are welcome

  2. Some pepole want a less expensive way to send mail art which is another reason why I am including handmade postcard mail art

If you choose to create envelope mail art the reason you must send something inside the envie is because: 1. It's just LAME to send an empty envelope & 2. people who choose to send postcard mail art will be writing a brief note on the back of the postcard, so if you choose to make envie mail art the least you can do is send a brief note inside your envelope

But keep in mind you should be rating your partner by the creative effort they have put into making their mail art for you not by whether there are "extras".

darn-wish this was USA only swap

Well whoever gets my mailart envelope will certainly get a lot more than if they were to get a postcard even if there was nothing inside the envelope.

@dixiediane International postage for a light envelope is only $1.10.

I really love the theme of this swap but I just don't get mixing envelopes (which are to contain something) with just sending a postcard. Seems like it would be better to just have it as two swaps because combined it sure sounds like anyone doing an envelope has to send more than the person just making a postcard. ????.

@charlottenc You've brought up this opinion in my NEON- Mail Art Swap and now here again in my Red, White & Blue- Mail Art Swap. I hear your point but the bottom line is it's MY SWAP, thus MY RULES and I like having the option of having both envie and postcard mail art in my swaps. I also don't feel like hosting two separate swaps but at the same time I don't want to exclude any of the wonderfully different ways of creating mail art.

I want envie mail art to contain at least a note (and it doesn't have to be anything more than that -a brief note- unless you want it be) because I think it 's weird to send an empty envelope (that's just my personal opinion) and again ->my swap, my rules

If you don't like the idea of sending an envie and then maybe only recieving a postcard in return then don't join

AND just to reiterate the FOCUS should be creative effort your partner put into making the mail art for you not about "extras"

My comment wasn't about "extras" and all the swaps I participate in are always about the creative effort my and I put into making something to share. It has never been and never will be about what I may get back -- I just enjoy a chance to be creative, especially since I have no talent for painting, drawing, etc. And yes, bottom line it is YOUR swap. I think I may have misunderstood about what to include in the envelope -- got the impression if we sent an envelope we also would be sending something for our partner (I usually do anyway 'cause I would feel weird sending an empty envelope LOL). It just seemed kinda uneven to send an envelope AND something but it you chose to just send a postcard, you didn't have to send anything else. If you only have to enclose a note, that's different. Similar to writing a few lines on the back of a postcard. I've never received a postcard in the Mail Art swaps -- could be interesting! I send large envelopes 'cause they're easier for me to work on than smaller ones. Can I rejoin your swap? I have soooo many things ready for the red/white/blue theme.

@charlottenc You and anyone who makes the rating requirement are always welcome to participate in one of my swaps.

I also prefer envelopes (and to hand make my envies) because they provide a bigger canvas on which to work, and I have received in past mail art swaps some really fantastic handmade postcard mailart. One cool mail art postcard I received had a sewn on fuzzy purple heart, and I've also received few oversized collaged/mixed media postcards that were really fun.

So let's have fun and let your creativity go crazy- Mail Art ON!!
