Description:

This will be a serial swap consisting of 24 rounds (at least to start). Here's the idea:

To start, you'll purchase a disposable camera with at least 24 exposures and take ONE interesting photo on it. Then stick it in a padded envelope and send it off to your partner. When you receive a new camera you'll do the same thing again- take a single photo and send it off. Be sure to write your name and address somewhere on the camera. Since most disposable cameras have some text or design on the back, it might be best to write your address on a small piece of paper and tape it onto the camera- Just make sure it's readable.

The photo can be of anything you want- an interesting-looking building, your next door neighbor, flowers in your garden, what you ate for breakfast, or anything else. Just in case you hit a mental block, I'll set a general theme for each round. This rounds theme is change . I thought this would be fun with new years resolutions in full effect, but you can capture anything related to change.

I'm sure this goes without saying, but I'll say it anyways: PLEASE don't take photos of anything inappropriate or potentially disturbing. There are plenty of 'safe' photo subjects out there. With that said, feel free to get creative and think outside the box. Set up objects in a unique way, play with lighting and backdrops, get a friend to model for you, have fun, and EXPERIMENT!

By the end of 24 rounds of this swap your original camera will be returned to you. Once you get it developed you'll have a whole set of unique photographs from 24 different photographers. Since this is more time-intensive that some swaps, no one with any recent unexplained low ratings or new swappers with fewer than 5 type 3 swaps will be allowed to participate.

Please feel free to message me or comment here with any questions or concerns or if you're having difficulty with the theme. Have fun :)

I haven't seen this on swap-bot before, but if this is someone else's idea, please let me know. It's not my intention to steal!

Also, I might adjust the amount of time to sign up and send swaps out as the rounds progress.

I would love to see 24 different photographs from 24 different locations around the world..!

GrammaSherry 01/ 2/2013 #

What a AMAZING idea - I am with siouxx05 - would koin in a heart beat if this was INT.............. Have Fun!!!!

How are the cameras going to get to their original owners? Do people have to commit to all 24 swaps? I would love to join, but the thought of paying to have a camera shipped 24 times is out of my budget. Otherwise, what a cool idea! And film, too!

magicinker 01/ 2/2013 #

Hmmm, I LOVE this idea but - going to have to check n see how much the postage would be - I'll get back with ya ..

jessicamangulo 01/ 2/2013 #

what would be the time frame of each round? once every week, month?

Jillyfish 01/ 2/2013 #

Dude-- This is a totally kickin' idea! Count me in. :D

Jillyfish 01/ 3/2013 #

I hope it's okay that I'm decorating my disposable camera. :P

draco 01/ 3/2013 #

i'm in, but would like to see an international one also, if enough people are interested

pandxa 01/ 3/2013 #

OK to answer a few questions: @carmen thanks for pointing this out. I meant to include a step in the instructions to write your name and address on the camera. I'll add more info now.

@jessicamangulo I was thinking at least a week from the sign up deadline to the sending deadline, but I can change that to best fit the needs of the participants

@Jillyfish awesome idea! decorate away :)

and to those of you who mentioned an international version, I would love to do one in the future, but since I haven't done a swap like this before I'm using a regional version as somewhat of a test run. Not to mention international postage can be a bit high on larger packages.

Incredibly disappointed that I can't join. The concept is BRILLIANT! Hopefully it will work so well it will be open to additional people wanting to tackle it in subsequent rounds? Or perhaps a "Traveling Camera #2 - Round 1" sometime a couple of months from now? Crossing fingers

Good luck to everyone joining in!

@Bootses As long as this goes well, I'll do another in the future, but probably not right away. Keep your eyes open though :)

sounds like fun!

diamondsapril 01/11/2013 #

what is the postage on it? its a great idea but since the postage is going up it would cost even more to send a camera 24 times, any one know the cost?

ashree 01/12/2013 #

I'm with Bootses on this one, so disappointed that I can't join! This would be awesome!

sdowner 01/20/2013 #

Waiting for my partner to mail her camera to me so I can continue in this swap.

NoirNoire 02/ 6/2013 #

Awe Id love to join this one! I hope you decide to host a new swap and make it international. It would be awesome.
