mag·pie noun /ˈmagˌpī/  magpies, plural

A long-tailed crow with boldly marked (or green) plumage and a raucous voice

Used in similes or comparisons to refer to a person who collects things, esp. things of little use or value. The Magpie is a bird who goes around collecting things so for the purpose of this journal you are to have atleast 30 entries of things you have collected. Examples are: *RECIPES * MENUS *CARDS/POSTCARDS *BITS OF RANDOM INFORMATION *CLIPPINGS FROM MAGAZINES/NEWSPAPERS *POEMS *SONG LYRICS *YOUR OWN PERSONAL THOUGHTS You get the idea it can really be anything, but please do not make all 30 entries the same thing. You can use a journal or a composition notebook to put your entries in. If you use a composition notebook try to spruce up the cove a little. You will have one partner. You have two months to complete the journal. If you have any questions please ask. No recent 1's or 3's You must have completed atleast 5 type 3 swaps to join. usa only to reduce postage cost.

I love this idea... I am The Magpie! I am! Unfortunately, I am Canadian.

honeyblossom 08/18/2012 #

I thought about adding Canada, but I think it is still double our postage cost is that right or wrong?

jandmterry 08/19/2012 #

I love this idea! I will be joining when I clear a few more swaps off my dash.

honeyblossom 08/19/2012 #

Great jandmterry I look forward to seeing you in the swap and thanks to those that have joined so far.

@honeyblossom a 1 pound standard envie from anywhere in the States to anywhere in the province of Ontario is $4.25. Sending that same 1 pound envelope from Beverly Hills, CA to Chicago, IL is $5.15. I'd say sometimes having a Canadian partner might save you money! (All this info came from the postage calculator on the USPS website.)

I was hoping it would stay in USA only-I don't swap outside of USA :(

Jjean 08/20/2012 #

Sorry but I only do USA swaps but it sounds like a fun swap!!!

eepy 08/20/2012 #

Don't let me spoil your fun! I've got lots to do for the next while, and I do the magpie stuff all the time.

Maybe the swappers could do private swaps. Is that OK with you @honeyblossom

joyceann888 09/11/2012 #

Do you add the actual items or just write about them?

honeyblossom 09/15/2012 #

add the actual items

honeyblossom 09/17/2012 #

some people were confused about the last statement. I don't mean send expensive things. This is kinda a junk journal if you want to include a pen or other similar inexpensive item go ahead otherwise do poems, pictures, lists, lyrics, etc. hope this helps.

Deeno1105 09/17/2012 #

Is there a certain sized journal required?

honeyblossom 09/17/2012 #

I don't want anyone to use a pocket sized journal. a regular sized journal is fine or a composition notebook.

cynaemon 09/19/2012 #

I want to do this as an altered book. Looking forward to it

winkipinki 08/25/2017 #

I too am Canadian. But very inspired by this idea.

outofdarkness 12/18/2019 #

I am confused. Is this a junk journal with a theme? or a "junk" journal. Does it have to have 30 pages, each different. Or 30 items on fewer pages? When we finish it, we end up trading it to another person? or is this one of those things where you send it around to different people to have them do a few pages and pass it on to eventually end up back with me?
