Does the canvas for our mail art have to be an envelope? Could it be an oversized handmade postcard?

Jess18877 03/12/2012 #

@melusina I don't mind but maybe you can ask your partner when we are assigned. If he/she doesn't mind you can use an oversized postcard.

Can the envelope by home made? Can we make our own envelope and then decorate it some more? thanks!

Jess18877 03/21/2012 #

Yes you can @missashley feel free!

@melusina it may be difficult to tuck in something nice for your partner when you use a postcard instread of an envie??

Since I use mail art to hold supplies, I would not be able to use a postcard. I wish mail art swaps were one or the other, not sender's choice, If I send an envie, I also am sending something for inside,,,thats a completely different package than a postcard. Just my opinion.

I think the whole point of mail art on an envelope or postcard is that the mail or the art so to speak is on the outside for all to see. It's not what's in the inside that counts it's what's on the outside. Stipulating that the sender sends a 'surprise' inside kind of goes against the idea of mail art. If the sender wants to send a 'surprise' that should be up to the sender after all it's a mail art swap. If the person who gets the mail art doesn't like the 'surprise' inside they can then rate the sender any which way they please because they weren't thrilled by what was inside. This does happen. Of course a note or a letter explaining who the sender is and a little about the art is nice.

Wouldn't mail art in the form of a postcard just be a handmade postcard?

Those are nice, but the charm of mail art is that the envelope is decorated when normally envelopes are left plain
