INTERNATIONAL and open to NEWBIES!

This is a swap for VINTAGE Postcards. These are cards that should be "OLD". You may have some if you have been collecting postcards for a long time. You can also find these at garage or estate sales, thrift shops, eBay, etc.

So look around and see what you can find. There is no specific era but please make sure these cards have a vintage look and feel. "OLD" means 20+ years old (before 1988). The OLDER the BETTER!

If you are not sure about the age, please use your best judgment and ask the question, "Does this look and feel OLD?" "Would I like to get this card sent to me in a VINTAGE postcard swap?".

You will send ONE card each to 3 swap partners.

Should be stamped and sent in the mail. No envies unless your partner specifically requests that in their profile or in the comments.

I guess it is all a matter of perspective, but I don't think of something from 1988 as vintage. LOL Most old cards made in the US are 3.5 inches by 5.5 inches. Modern cards (and European cards) are usually 4 by 6 inches.

Wackystuff, you are right, most people would not consider cards from 1988 "Vintage". However, to open the swap to more people that have cards that are at least 20+ years old, I used that parameter. Like I said, the older the better! I have some cards from the 50's and I have seen cards from the 70's and 80's that look very old too. :)

I just went to an antique shop yesterday that sold old postcards (both new and used) 5/$1 . that would be a good place to look too. I just need to measure them to be sure theyre big enough... some of them seem a little brittle from age? or soft (i know, that doesn't sound right, but i can't think of a better word). I hope they still hold up in the mail system!

What a 'score' dreamerkins ... 5/$1! I love it when I find those!! :D

dreamerkins 01/20/2008 #

yea! and there are boxes and boxes of them. also, the lady assured me they get more all the time! I can't wait to go back!!

i have a lot of used vintage postcards from europe, but they are all already stamped and written on, are these possible to send in envies?

amberlantern 01/24/2008 #

TTragic, I think that your postcards sound very nice, but for this swap, they should be previously unwritten on and written on and stamped by you. No envies. Perhaps you could start a swap with your idea to send vintage cards in an envie. I'm sure there a lot of people that would participate. Myself included!

ttragic 01/25/2008 #

cool, well no problem, i actually have both and was just curious, would be a good idea to host my own swap, i dont do that too often!

dreamerkins 01/31/2008 #

ooo, ttragic, if you host a swap that's for vintage postcards, that have vintage stamps, and writing already on them, sent in an evie, i promise to join!!! pm me when you set it up! i love those! i have quite a few! they're so interesting to see what other people sent, and where they went and stuff! i have many U.S. ones with 1c or 3c stamps! i love those!

Ohhhh man I missed the deadline!

dreamerkins 02/11/2008 #

i hope my partners don't mind, my postcards were previously written on, but it's just the price in the corner... ;)
